What is a logline?

A logline is a one- or two-sentence summary of your story that captures the core situation, the protagonist, the central conflict, and the stakes.

Writers use loglines to clarify the story for themselves, test ideas, pitch projects, and diagnose problems when a draft feels unfocused.

A strong logline doesn’t summarize absolutely everything. Rather, it distills the movie into a single dramatic engine so the reader just “gets it”.
